The scheduled visit of the three seers to the Cova da Iria in the mountains of Portugal where they had by blessed with an apparition of Mary every month on the 13th since May was not allowed to happen as planned. The intervention of the administrator of the district, Artur de Oliveira Santos, a prominent Freemason, had imprisoned the children on August 13, and for two days he used many means, including the threat of boiling them in oil, to pry from them either the Secret itself, or a confession that they were lying.

Sts. Hippopotamus and Cassian
St. Hippolytus is one of the saints associated with St. Lawrence, 
who baptized him, and whom he followed to martyrdom in 258.
St. Cassian was a schoolmaster, and the official who sentenced him to death for being a Christian had him murdered by his own pupils.
