On this day in 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children in a mountain pasture near the village of Fatima, Portugal. Over the next six months Our Lady of Fatima promised to appear there to Francisco and Jacinta Marto and their older cousin Lucia Santos each month on the 13th at noon.

During these apparitions Our Lady of Fatima shared with the children three secrets. She asked them to do penance for the poor souls in Hell, and to pray the Rosary daily. She also asked them to ask the Pope, along with all the Bishops of the world, to consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart. If this was accomplished there would be world peace. If this was not done …Russia will spread its errors throughout the world
